Parts of Fruit: Made up of two parts Pericarp and Seed. In some Plants Pericarp is divided into three parts namely – Epicarp, Mesocarp and Endocarp.
Classification of Fruit: Fruits can be classified into three main classes such as Simple fruits, Aggregate fruits and Composite fruits. The simple fruit is developed from monocarpellary or polycarpellary syncarpous gynoecium. The Simple fruits are divided into dry and fleshy fruits. The dry fruits are of two type’s dehiscent and indehiscent fruits. The fleshy fruit is divided into two type’s drupe which contains only one seed while berry contain the many seeds. Example of drupe is a mango while example for berry is tomato. The aggregate fruit is developing from polycarpellary apocarpous gynoecium in which every ovary develops into small fruitlets and combination of these fruitlets together called aggregate fruit. The composite fruit is that fruit which develops from the entire inflorescence. They may of two types, Sorosis (Pineapple) and Syconus (Figs).
