Sometimes the difference between win or lose is in your head.
Its amazing what you can achieve by just believing in yourself. Many of us cyclists struggle with certain aspects of riding a bike. The main challenges we face are riding uphill or riding over long distances.
Overcoming these two obstacles does indeed require a decent level of physical fitness but equally important is mental toughness and the ability to believe in yourself.
Many professional sports teams now employ the services of a sports psychologist to give athletes the mental toughness to not only compete in certain events but to win them.
As amateur cyclists we aren't generally concerned with winning races but we often would like to be able to ride a certain distance or get up a particular climb. If you find this a challenge the answer may not be you lack of fitness but your mental toughness and the mental barriers that you have been placing on your abilities.
