गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भारत के संविधान के अनुच्छेद 370 के खंड 1 के सिवा इस अनुच्छेद के सारे खंडों को रद्द करने की सिफारिश की। साथ ही, जम्मू-कश्मीर को केंद्रशासित प्रदेश बनाने की सिफारिश की गई है। जम्मू-कश्मीर को दो भागों में बांट दिया गया है। पहला हिस्सा जम्मू-कश्मीर का होगा जिसमें विधानसभा होगी। यानी, नया जम्मू-कश्मीर दिल्ली जैसा होगा। वहीं, दूसरा हिस्सा लद्दाख का होगा जो पूर्णतः केंद्रशासित प्रदेश होगा। सरकार ने राज्यसभा में इस संदर्भ का संकल्प पेश किया। इस पर पाकिस्तान ने तर्क किया है कि वो इस मुद्दे को अंतराष्ट्रीय कोर्ट में लेकर जायेगा।

Home Minister Amit Shah recommended the repeal of all sections of this article except section 1 of Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
