On July 16, 2019, the unexpected termination of a nearly decade-long employee at New Roots Charter School (NRCS) in Ithaca, New York, resulted in great concern among parents, teachers, staff, students, friends, and the general public. Due to the outcry for answers, the NRCS Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on August 8, 2019, to have a discussion among concerned community members. Following that meeting, the Board of Trustees held another board meeting on August 13, 2019, to enter into Executive Session to have "discussions regarding collective negotiations" and "matters leading to the appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension, dismissal, or removal of a particular person" (anticipated votes).

Due to lack of finalized language for the collective negotiations, the Board tabled discussion of that topic for another time.

The only other item on the agenda was "public comment," ahead of the Executive Session. The public comment period is recorded herein.
