The Opioid Crisis: Perspectives From Addiction Specialists In Primary Care & Psychiatry The United States is currently experiencing an opioid epidemic, impacting health care providers across all specialties, including those working in primary care and psychiatry. In this presentation, Dr. Matthew Torrington and Dr. Richard Rosenthal share their perspectives as addiction specialists working in the primary care and psychiatric fields regarding the role of providers in impacting the opioid epidemic. The speakers review the history of opioid development and abuse, examine the impact of the introduction of synthetic opioids on the opioid epidemic, and discuss the connection between mental illness and opioid use.
