Casting off for beginners

Casting off for beginners The cast off! The final part of my 4 part beginner series. If you have been following along you should now know how to make a slip knot and cast on, work the knit and purl stitch and after today's demo you will be able to cast off a project! I am so glad you took this journey with me and learned something new or brushed up on some skill muscles you haven't stretched in awhile!
If you missed parts 1-3 here are the links to those videos:

The knit stitch

The purl stitch

At the end of todays demo I shared how to set up the swatch pattern featured in the demo. If you chose to cast on 16, 20, 24 or more stitches here is how I determine how many stitches to work garter and how many to work in stockinette:
I divide the number of stitches in half so if you chose 16 that number divided in half would be 8 so I would work 8 stitches stockinette and 8 stitches in the garter border. To keep the garter pattern on the border I just split that number again.... to make this easier here is how I would work it in pattern: 16 stitches= row 1 knit all stitches
row 2 knit 4, purl 8, knit 4 = 16 stitches in pattern
You can (and I encourage you) to mix these numbers up but this is the basic way I usually split up the stitches. I hope this makes sense. If not drop me a line in the comments and I will help you out!
Next week I will begin my 4 part Beginner crochet series so stay tuned for that! As always makes loops with love and I'll see you then!
