Lose stuff find stuff metal detecting the NH woods

Lose stuff find stuff metal detecting the NH woods A day of metal detecting with some finds and some losses.
The group headed out to some cellar holes here in New Hampshire for a day of metal detecting relic hunting. The first site we landed at was pounded and we couldn't find anything with the detectors. We decided to just start digging small pits around the old foundation and see what we could find and to our surprise we did better than with the metal detectors. Among the finds were a beautiful sand stone for sharpening blades, a door hinge, old window glass, pipe stem, scythe blade and bottles.
Well at this point it was realized that one of the radios was missing and we had to go back looking for it. So while others were looking for the radio I grabbed my Garrett ATGOLD detector and started swinging around all the trash and beer cans. I got a solid 85 signal and started digging. Holy cow ! its a 1845 US large cent in really nice condition, I cant believe it was in all this garbage out in front of the cellar hole. So it goes to show you that you never know what you can find in some places.
