Why The Universe is Expanding?

In Year 1998, Astronomers saw a distant light coming directly towards our planet. After research, they discovered that it's coming from a supernova explosion exploded Millions of light years away.

Based upon the distance of Supernova this light should have been very bright, but instead it was not. Which means that the universe is expanding, causing the distance between earth and supernova to increase.
