Home to the world championship of rotary tiller racing, scenic byways, large swaths of farmlands, acres upon acres of forestlands, the calm and serene rivers and streams – Arkansas definitely deserves to be called the Natural State. But the place has more than enough dark secrets and skeletons in the closet that could almost ruin its serene imagery.
Here are 5 of the most bizarre mysteries coming straight from the state of Arkansas.
5. Ghost Lights
The Arkansas state is brimming with stories of ghost hauntings and other paranormal phenomenon. These mysteries have been getting the attention of people from around the country, flocking in this side of the world to experience the horror themselves.
Two of the most common points of wonderment in Arkansas are these couple of ghostly orbs appearing in two separate parts of the state – the one in Gurdon and the other in Crossett.
4. Crop Circles
If one talks about crop circles, it can’t be helped to cite stories of extra-terrestrial beings coming to earth, or them sending a message to us.
There’s no question that crop circles are real. They can be observed, documented, studied and some skeptics would even go the length to replicate them.
3. The Mysterious Disappearance of Maud Crawford
It might be quite surprising to know that Arkansas was once a melting pot for mobsters in the first half of the 20th century. One of the most prominent mob figures to ever set foot in this beautiful state was Al Capone.
2. The Phantom Killer in Texarkana
In the spring of 1946, the small town of Texarkana was disturbed by a series of murders committed by what was then known as the “Phantom Killer.”
According to reports, the white-hooded killer would usually prey on young couples who escaped to secluded areas during night-time.
1. Dead Blackbirds
In the New Year of 2010, in Beebe, Arkansas, 5,000 blackbirds were seen slamming into buildings, electric poles, and trees. They all died instantly, falling to the ground like black hailstorms.
The town was shocked but later understood the incident as something to do with celebratory fireworks which spooked the birds.
