Mervyn's Employee Video - Visual Merchandising (Christmas 1989)

Mervyn's Employee Video - Visual Merchandising (Christmas 1989) Jerry Neal, Mervyn's Director of Visual Merchandising, presents a slideshow of the now-defunct department store's holiday concepts for 1989.

Neal starts things off by going into painstaking detail on what the Christmas season entails since, undoubtedly, only a small number of the retail giant's employees had ever heard of the holiday before watching this video. At one point, he implies that the mid-south is in store for a snowstorm and that unicorns exist, despite the mythical creature's complete lack of connection to the holidays.

The proper "visual merchandising" section touches on store décor and product lines for women's sportswear, accessories/cosmetics, intimate apparel, men's/young men's, decorative home, children's, Mickey Mouse and baby's first Christmas. Enjoy this look back at Mervyn's "most important selling season of the year."
