SBPD Critical Incident Community Briefing 2018-127369 (English Version) Critical Incident Community Briefing
Viewer discretion advised
Message from Interim Police Chief Eric McBride
This community briefing video provides information about a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on September 28, 2018. Two San Bernardino police officers responded to a call involving a suspect who was threatening family members with a handgun. A word of caution, the briefing includes body-worn camera footage and other images and language that may be disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised.
Whenever deadly force is used, it is traumatic not only for the police officers and family of those involved, but for the community as a whole.
San Bernardino Police officers respond to fast-moving and dangerous situations every day. In the vast majority of these incidents, they respond professionally and effectively. During this incident, the decision-making of one of our officers fell far short of our high expectations and standards. As a result, he no longer works for our department. The other officer has returned to full duty.
As San Bernardino’s Interim Police Chief, I am committed to providing the community with accurate information about critical incidents and holding our officers to the highest professional standards.
Although our investigation has been completed, the incident remains under review by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office and we will continue to cooperate with their investigation.
