Hey, guys. My name’s Angel and recently my boyfriend accidentally found my Tinder profile. You may wonder how he found it when he shouldn't be using Tinder in the first place. Well, the answer is very complicated and shocking, even to me.
Our relationship was like a fairytale. We were neighbors growing up, our mothers were pretty close, so we became best friends. When we graduated from school, we went to colleges that were far from each other and we grew apart a bit. But I had this big job opportunity in NY, so I moved there. I was walking my usual path to work when I saw him - Jimmy. We immediately recognized each other and planned to meet up after work. And it was great, we were laughing, talking about our lives but there was something else...something changed in our relationship. During that evening, we shared these intense looks and I think in the end it clicked. For both of us. It was love. We started dating, after a couple of months we moved in together and we were happy for a while. But he started changing… After this one day, he became a completely different person.
It was evening, I was preparing dinner and setting up the table when he came back from work. He burst out in the kitchen, furious. No hello, no kiss. He straight up asked me, “Why in the world would you have a Tinder account?! Do you not take this relationship seriously?” I was shocked. I had no idea what he was talking about. I tried calming him down, but he wasn’t having it. He said that one of his colleagues saw me on Tinder. My best guess was that someone just stole my picture and created a fake account, there are lots of them. He seemed to calm down, we had dinner and went to sleep. But after that day, he became paranoid.
Anytime I’d go out with my friends, he’d ask me to take a picture of them to see that I’m not with a guy, he’d take my phone and scroll through the messages to see that I’m not flirting with anyone. And these crazy stories kept coming. After a week or two, a different colleague told him that she saw me making out with some guy in a coffee shop. He came home, started packing up his things... I couldn’t believe I was gonna lose the love of my life over something I didn’t even do. He was calling me a cheater and a liar. I tried talking to him but he wouldn’t listen.
And after a couple of hours, I was all alone. Cold winter night in an empty apartment all by myself with a broken heart and an unsolved mystery. Why would his colleagues say that about me? I remember meeting them at an office party, they were friendly. Sure, Liza seemed a bit flirtatious with Jimmy, but she wouldn’t just break us up over that. Would she? I felt that I didn’t have anything to lose, so I looked them up on “Facebook” and texted them. I needed an explanation or an answer. But all I got was Jimmy’s text - “Stop writing my co-workers. Stop texting me. Stop calling me. I don’t want to see you anymore”. I cried through the night.
