Buying a second hand vehicle?
Do your homework on the internet first after you determine your budget.
Look on sites to determine how much vehicle you can get for the amount you're willing to pay.
Once you determine what kind of vehicle you can afford, what features you want, and the colour, start setting up appointments to look at vehicles.
Do a complete pre-trip inspection on the vehicle. In other words, check that absolutely every component of the vehicle is working.
In the case study above of the 2005 Honda Civic, I learned that the reverse lights didn't work. Also, the windshield was cracked and the tires needed to be replaced.
The replacement of the tires and the windshield are a known cost, which is about $1,000.
The reverse lights are an unknown cost. To get these working could be as simple as replacing a fuse. On the other hand, it could be as complicated as a short in one of the wires that could take an aerospace engineer days and weeks to locate and repair.
And know that the price of every vehicle is negotiable.
If the owner or the dealership isn't willing to negotiate, simply walk away.
Know that there are lots and lots of vehicle for sale. You can get the vehicle you want for the price you're willing to pay.
DON'T SETTLE!!
