The mountain itself is used as a function radar tower, which you will see as you finish the Sa'al steps, and it can be seen from the highway. Sa'al steps stand out like a sore thumb due to it being a very rigid and steep peak in a shallow and flat surrounding area.
Oman is home to many hikes but this one was amongst one of my favourites due to its difficulty - and of course the views it provides.
Climbing Sa'als steps isn't for the faint-hearted, its hard-work climbing up (and getting back down) and I completed this in WINTER, so I wouldn't recommend doing it any time other than the winter season.
But, if you're in Oman and you're feeling adventurous and want unparalleled views of the Hajar Mountains, I highly recommend it.
If you're going on the hike, the Sa'al Steps begins after you go through a dirt road. The steps themselves will be visible from the dirt road so keep an eye out for it, and once you see the sign I put in my video, you'll know you're in the right places :)
I hope you enjoy, and remember to take lots of water and a camera for your trek up the sa'al mountain!
