Calix Shouldn't Be A Planeswalker? | Magic: The Gathering Lore

Calix, Destiny's Hand is a new Planeswalker feature in Theros Beyond Death. Created by the God of Destiny, Klothys, this Planeswalker looks to put fate back in its place by hunting Elspeth Tirel. Calix is an artificial Planeswalker made to track down and bring Elspeth back to the Underworld, but how can that be? Everything we know about Planeswalker Sparks, a created being cannot ignite. Outside of Karn, who has a human soul, how can an artificial being become a Planeswalker? What does Calix, Destiny's Hand, tell us about the nature of Planeswalker Sparks?

Theros Beyond Death is a Magic: The Gathering and Magic Arena set that brings us back to the story of Theros. Here we adventure with the slain Planeswalker, Elspeth Tirel, as she escapes her fate in the Underworld and faces her destiny. She fights through belief, doubt, and the Gods themselves; will she be the hero she was went to be?
