The Diamond Princess, which is carrying over 3,700 passengers and crew, was the first to be quarantined in the Japanese port of Yokohama, after ten passengers tested positive for the novel coronavirus and were removed from the ship on Wednesday morning for medical treatment.
The health screenings began after an 80-year-old passenger from Hong Kong tested positive for coronavirus after sailing on the ship last month. During his voyage, he did not visit the ship’s medical centre or report any symptoms.
David Abel, 74, a British passenger on board with his wife Sally to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, has been live streaming reports with updates. The couple had initially been due to fly home on Monday.
