OFFICIAL BREWSTER POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE: Police Arrest Suspect Who Breaks Into Off Duty Officers Truck and Uses Police Radio

BREWSTER, MA – On January 31, just after 2:00 a.m. officers received a radio call by an unknown person over the Brewster Police radio frequency. Communication over public safety radio frequencies is
typically only permitted by authorized first responders. The male party stated that he was cold and had entered a vehicle, where he found the radio in question. After some discussion via the police radio, officers were able to identify the location of the subject. Upon arrival and after some investigation, officers were able to determine that the subject, identified as R. Adam Plaice (age 31) of Brewster, had entered an off duty police officer’s vehicle while it was parked in the officer’s driveway. The locked glove box within the vehicle had been broken open and the officer’s radio was located and used to makethe transmission.

Plaice was placed under arrest and charged with: B&E Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime; B&E Depository; & Malicious Destruction of a Motor Vehicle. He will be arraigned at Orleans District Court this morning.

INITIAL HN REPORT:

BREWSTER – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at about 2:00 a.m. this morning, an unknown random male came on the Brewster Police radio frequency announcing he was freezing his private’s off.

Police asked him his location and he didn’t know, but he was able to read the off-duty police sergeant’s name that was written on the official police radio.

Brewster officers were quickly able to zero in on the man’s location, finding him sitting inside a pickup truck belonging to one of their off-duty police sergeants.

The truck was parked in the driveway outside the sergeant’s home. The man was taken into custody and then transported to Brewster Police Headquarters.

A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to process the scene.
