First-Time Buyer Deposit (UK) Advice from Hazel Wood

First-Time Buyer Deposit (UK) Advice from Hazel Wood Do you hope to be a first-time home buyer? Do you need help with a first-time buyer deposit?

Watch Phil Spencer interview Hazel Wood in our First-Time Buyer series, which is part of Move iQ's campaign to lower the average of first-time home buyers in the UK.

In episode 2 of this 3 part video mini-series, Hazel shares her inspirational first-time home buyer story and discusses how she searched and found her first home and the additional costs, sometimes unexpected, of buying a new build, such as the deposit, ground rent and service charges.

SAVING FOR YOUR FIRST HOME
Even though she benefited from the government's Help to Buy Scheme, Hazel still had to make some sacrifices and compromises to be able to afford her first home. She had to reduce her monthly outgoings and review and reduce spend on committed outgoings.

In this way, Hazel was able to save £20,000 in just two years. Living at home with her parents during this time also meant she saved money by not having to pay rent.
