Many of you asked when I am going to start organizing motorcycle trips? The short answer is never! I have zero interest in this type of activities and the price doesn't really matter. For me, traveling is like to give myself the best reward!
1. Be realistic.
Always pick the destination you want to ride, not because someone told you that it will be nice. We all have different preferences and what is good for one could be bad for another. Be honest with your possibilities, for example, your riding skills, how much time you have for the trip.
2. Make your homework.
Learning as more as possible for the country or the area you plan to visit will help you much more than you can imagine. To go there completely unprepared, because you are looking for adventure, could finish really bad and not only for you.
3. Choose the right motorcycle.
The bike choice is something very important. You have to set the right priorities and the correct order is functionality, reliability, price and fun factor. Not the other way around!
4. Make proper maintenance.
Instead of carrying 20kg of spare parts with you change everything that might finish or fail. Even if they still have some mileage, change it. Tires, tubes, wheel bearings, clutch plates, oils, filters and so on. Everything you do before the trip will help you during the trip.
6. Choose the right partner.
This is so important that I should have started with it. Believe it or not, it is not that easy to find the right person to travel with. Compromises from both sides will be necessary! This actually reminds me of tip number 7.
7. Make some short tests.
Alone, with the person, you are planning to travel or with the group, if you are in a group. Day, two or week trips will tell you much more than hundreds of hours talking in local bars or in front of the TV.
8. Stop adding and start removing stuff from your luggage.
The most important stuff and what you might need are two different things. Honestly, for one week, one month or one year you will need about the same number of items. The weight always matters! You can learn it now, or the hard way later!
9. Practice as much as possible.
Runners run, boxers fight, tennis players play tennis, guess what you have to do to become a better rider? Of course to ride as more as possible.
10. Make sure that you are in good health.
If you have even a small indication that something is not right, don't go. There is nothing worse than to be sick on a trip. You are not going to enjoy it at all and everything will be pointless.
