Ten hereditary monarchies still survive in Europe. These royal rulers are seen as figure heads and public faces for their countries. They generate good will and patriotism and are involved in charity work but most are barred from holding any tangible government power. Here are stories of the 10 current monarchs of Europe. Corrections:
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was born in 1946 and his reign began in 1973 when he was 27.
Henri of Luxembourg was born in 1955 and his reign began in 2000 when he was 45. He is married to MarĂ­a Teresa Mestre y Batista.
