Taiwan News reported that a trial last week ruled that four Vietnamese men working for a water treatment plant in Fengyuan county, Taichung City, were charged with killing a dog. black fur on October 25, 2018. These people then turned the dog into food that served 12 other Vietnamese.
Giap Van Hong, 53, and Nguyen Van Nang, 37, were fined $ 6,654 per person and detained 40 days and 30 days, respectively, for violating the Animal Protection Act. The other two, Nguyen Qua Ng and Vu Van Truyen, are still fleeing.
According to the ruling, the four said the dog was raised in a worker dormitory, killed the animal, and cooked it in the factory kitchen. Local police and animal protection officials arrived at the scene after receiving notice and arrested the relevant subjects.
The police also seized the leftover unprocessed dog meat, a knife and tools used to dog dogs.
Giap Van Hong and Nguyen Van Nang have pleaded guilty to the charges. Meanwhile, 12 people who eat dog meat each were fined $ 1,664. In total, the fine was about $ 33,000.
Earlier, the group of 16 workers had been warned by the labor broker that killing and slaughtering dogs was illegal in Taiwan, according to Taiwan News.
Taiwan's animal protection law currently prohibits killing and eating dogs and cats, and increases penalties for violations.
