After coming from India & Thailand before this where a $12-$18/night hotel would be a nice 2 or 3 star hotel with a private bathroom, $50 for an OK place in Singapore seemed expensive.
So we downgraded even more and for $30/night, we stayed in a private room at a hostel with a shared bathroom.
Overall, for a cheap and clean place, we would recommend Coziee Lodge Hostel which is only 5km from Downtown.
