An Iranian national has been sentenced to death by the Iranian Supreme Court for passing on Tehran's nuclear program intelligence to the US, Iran's judiciary confirmed on Tuesday.
Iranian Judiciary spokesperson Gholamhossein Esmaili announced the news in a press briefing in Tehran saying, " He was a CIA's spy and had an affiliation with this spy organization and received big sums of money as his wage and tried to provide the US intelligence service with nuclear information."
According to Esmaili, two more people both working as spies under the guise of a charity organisation were also sentenced to prison.
Iranian and American relations have been particularly tense amid the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani who was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad on January 3 and prompted Iranian retaliation in Iraqi bases under the command of US troops.
