Hey guys! Today I’m going to show you how to create coloured vertical lines using vertical double half hitch knots. Please see the link in the description for a more in-depth tutorial on how to tie the double half hitch knot if you would like additional help. Let’s get started!
Fold Colour 1 (mustard) in half and attach to the left side of your work using a vertical double half hitch knot. We want there to be the same amount of cord on both sides because we will be using both sides to tie our knots. Moving to the right, tie 3 more vertical double half hitch knots.
Fold Colour 2 (beige) in half and attach to the right of Colour 1 using a vertical double half hitch knot. Moving to the right, tie 3 more vertical double half hitch knots.
Fold Colour 3 (pink) in half and attach to the right of Colour 2 using a vertical double half hitch knot. Moving to the right, tie 3 more vertical double half hitch knots.
Before we tie our second row of knots we will cross the cords so that the 3 vertical lines are connected together. If you would prefer to keep them as separate lines, do not cross your cords.
Using Colour 1 (mustard), tie 4 vertical double half hitch knots working from right to left.
Using Colour 2 (beige), tie 4 vertical double half hitch knots working from left to right.
Cross the top beige cord (Colour 2) with Colour 3 (pink).
Using Colour 2 (beige), tie 1 vertical double half hitch knot working from right to left to hold the cord in place.
Using Colour 3 (pink), tie 4 vertical double half hitch knots working from left to right.
Using Colour 2 (beige), finish tying your vertical double half hitch knots working from right to left (tie 3 more vertical double half hitch knots).
Using the top mustard cord (Colour 1) tie 4 vertical double half hitch knots working from left to right. Make sure to cut quite a bit of cord if you’re wanting to create a full wall hanging with this pattern (I didn’t cut my pieces quite long enough) - vertical double half hitch knots typically use a lot of cord.
Using the top pink cord (Colour 3) tie 4 vertical double half hitch knots working from right to left.
Continue with this pattern until you’ve created a wall hanging of your desired length.
Thanks so much for watching! I love to see your work so please feel free to tag me on Instagram or Facebook if you’ve used one of my tutorials.
